86-Year-Old Killed Wife for Putting Ketchup Lid on Too Tight: Prosecutor

An 86-year-old Oregon man on trial for the shooting death of his wife was reportedly fueled to commit the act after his stepdaughter failed to wish him a happy birthday and his wife put the lid on the ketchup bottle too tightly, Deschutes County prosecutor Mary Anderson said during her opening statement in Lawrence Loeffler's murder trial Wednesday. Prosecutors say the act was a calculated one, as Loeffler reportedly took the phone off the hook and retrieved a gun before he lured his wife to the couple's deck and shot her in the neck and the head. Loeffler's defense attorney says his client is not guilty of murder and claims Loeffler was suffering from delusions at the time.
