Alabama Governor Robert Bentley Refuses to Quit

The governor was accused of having an affair with his top adviser

Alabama’s governor was refusing to quit Thursday after he was accused of having an affair with his top political adviser, NBC News reported.

"He is not resigning," Gov. Robert Bentley's spokeswoman Jennifer Ardis told NBC News Thursday afternoon.

Excerpts from a purported telephone conversation between the two were released. Bentley does not deny it was him on the tape, but refused to admit he had a sexual relation with Rebekah Caldwell Mason.

Fired Alabama top cop Spencer Collier blew the whistle on Bentley and Mason during a Wednesday press conference. He claimed he was fired as head of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Tuesday because he refused to cover up the governor’s affair.
