Avalanche in French Alps Hits High School Group

Authorities said three people were dead and another was “seriously wounded” in an avalanche in the French Alps on Wednesday, NBC News reported.

Two students and a Ukrainian skier, who wasn’t affiliated with the school, were killed, the authority added in a statement.

A group of ten students and a teacher from a Lyon school were caught in the avalanche, according to the Isere civil authority. Police said some of the rescued students were gravely injured.

France’s national police said a massive rescue operation was launched near a ski resort near Grenoble shortly before 4 p.m. local time (10 a.m. ET).
