Authorities said three people were dead and another was “seriously wounded” in an avalanche in the French Alps on Wednesday, NBC News reported.
Two students and a Ukrainian skier, who wasn’t affiliated with the school, were killed, the authority added in a statement.
A group of ten students and a teacher from a Lyon school were caught in the avalanche, according to the Isere civil authority. Police said some of the rescued students were gravely injured.
France’s national police said a massive rescue operation was launched near a ski resort near Grenoble shortly before 4 p.m. local time (10 a.m. ET).
