Babysitter Kills Child, Brings Head to Moscow Subway: Reports

A babysitter killed a child in her care and set fire to a Moscow apartment on Monday, according to law enforcement officials, NBC News reported.

The Russian Investigative Committee — the country's equivalent to the FBI — said in a statement that the woman had been a babysitter for a family with two children. She killed the younger child — who was three or four years old — lit a fire and left the building, it added.

Graphic footage of what allegedly followed flooded social networks. Images and video posted online showed a woman in traditional Muslim black head covering carrying what appeared to be a child's severed head near a subway station. NBC News could not immediately independently verify the authenticity of the photos and video.

The woman was sent for psychiatric tests as her actions indicated she may be mentally ill, officials said.
