Boxer Charged With Murder Days After Making Pro Debut

Just days after making his in-ring debut, a pro boxer from Atlantic City has been accused of fatally shooting a man earlier this year.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that 24-year-old Omar Curry faces murder and weapons charges stemming from the fatal shooting of Nelson Viera, a 32-year-old Atlantic City resident who was killed in January.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and it's not clear if Curry and Viera knew each other before the shooting occurred.

Curry was arrested Tuesday night and made his initial court appearance Wednesday. He remains jailed on $1 million cash bail, and it was not known if he had retained an attorney.

Curry made his pro debut Saturday, competing in a lightweight bought that ended in a four-round majority draw.
