A Real Angel: Boy, 6, Calls 911 to Help Mom

Rhode Island State Police gave Michael Finch the "Lifesaver Award"

A 6-year-old boy was named an honorary Rhode Island state trooper after he called 911 and calmly summoned help for his stricken mother.

Michael Finch, who told authorities he was named after the archangel, reported that his mother was "on the ground, really suffering pain."

With no panic in his voice, he relayed that his mother — who suffered a sudden drop in blood sugar — felt like she was about to pass out and had redness on her chest "right next to her purple flower tattoo."

Michael was able to verify his address for the dispatcher and warn that the family has a dog. When the operator said a fire truck would be coming, Michael asked which one, and then announced, "I know that kind of fire truck."

His mom, Rebecca Cottle, was taken to the hospital and recovered fully — and Michael was ever the humble hero, NBC News reported.

Last week, the state police gave Michael the "Lifesaver Award," which recognized his "bravery, heroism, composure, ability to stay calm and focused as well as his compassion during this life-threatening incident with his mother."
