Nine people were hospitalized Saturday after being exposed to formaldehyde at an Elgin factory, officials said.

A 7-year-old boy was seriously injured in Chicago after someone threw a brick or concrete block at his family’s vehicle, striking him in the head, authorities said.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of West 46th Street when three teens approached the vehicle the boy and his family were riding in, police said. The teens threw objects at the vehicle and one cement rock hit the young boy in the head, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

The boy was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

No one was in custody as of Thursday morning.
