Two Children Killed in Crash With Speeding Driver: Dallas County Sheriff's Department

A 12-year-old and a baby were killed when the car they were riding in with their parents was hit by a speeding driver early Friday afternoon, Dallas County Sheriff's Department said.[[356128191,R]]

The crash occurred at about 1:20 p.m. Friday along the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 175 near Pine Street in east Dallas County.

Deputies said the driver of a SUV, identified as 23-year-old Kelvin Walker, was speeding on rain-slicked streets when he collided with a sedan.

A mother, father and their three children were inside the car when it was hit, deputies said.

Two of the children were ejected from the vehicle.

Officials said the 12-year-old, identified as Yahir Cervantes-Oliver, died at the scene and a baby, identified as Aylin Cervantes-Oliver, died Friday evening at Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

The conditions of the drivers of the sedan and Walker are not known, however police said Walker has been detained at the hospital and will be charged with manslaughter. 

The eastbound lanes of U.S. 175 at Pine Street were shut down for several hours Friday before reopening at about 6 p.m.
