Dolphin Calf Born at SeaWorld

A dolphin calf was born at SeaWorld San Diego on Sunday, the 81st such dolphin born at the park.

The calf weighs 40 pounds and its gender will be determined in the coming weeks, park officials said Monday afternoon.

The calf was the fourth one born to a bottlenose dolphin named Tobie in a private pool at SeaWorld.

Park staffers said that mom and baby appear to be in good health and are swimming together and bonding.

Staffers and veterinarians will continue to monitor the babyโ€™s growth and health over the coming weeks.

Earlier this month, the California Coastal Commission banned SeaWorld from future breeding of orca whales, but that decision does not impact dolphin breeding.
