Ex-Pro Athlete Dies After Florida Sheriff's Office Agility Training

A former professional basketball player training to become a sheriff's deputy in Florida died after completing an agility test required by the department for new hires, authorities said.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports that 37-year-old Dondre Williams fell ill Tuesday after passing a series of physical tests that included running, push-ups and sit-ups.

Williams died Wednesday at the hospital, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Williams went to high school in Jacksonville, and played basketball at West Virginia State University. After graduation, he played professional basketball in Europe and was a strength coach at the University of Florida from 2008-2010.

Williams had also created a sports academy to help needy children in Tampa.

No cause of death has been released.
