Yohann Diniz of France competes in the Men's 50km Race Walk on Day 14 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at Pontal on August 19, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

France's Yohann Diniz was praised for his courage after suffering a series of unfortunate incidents during the men's 50 km race walk at the Rio Olympics.

Diniz, who is the world-record holder for the 50 km, felt sick earlier Friday before the race, according to France's L'Equipe. He was the favorite going into the competition early Friday.

The Frenchman appeared to have suffered a gastrointestinal accident about 49 minutes into the race. Footage shared on social media captured a brown substance trickling down his leg, as he charged ahead in the lead.

The 38-year-old then collapsed, laying on the ground for several minutes before managing to get back up and finish the race. He finished in 7th place.
