Gas Station Canopy Collapses, Traps Cars Underneath

Though the cause of the collapse was not yet known, the incident happened amid a Winter Storm Warning in southern Wisconsin

The canopy of a Citgo gas station in southeastern Wisconsin collapsed Monday, trapping two vehicles underneath it amid a dynamic winter storm.

The canopy collapsed at a Citgo gas station near Wright Street and Highway 11 in Delavan, Wisconsin, a town located less than 15 miles from Lake Geneva, according to authorities.

Fire officials told NBC affiliate TMJ4 cars were trapped underneath the canopy in the collapse.

The gas station's owner reported two cars were pinned by the canopy, but no one was injured. The owner told TMJ4 the station will be closed Tuesday but is expected to reopen soon after. 

Though the cause of the collapse was not yet known, the incident happened amid a Winter Storm Warning in southern Wisconsin. The warning, which remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday, warns of wind gusts as high as 45 mph.
