A Las Vegas police K-9 officer was shot and killed Thursday in the line of duty, three weeks after returning to duty following a machete attack, NBC News reports.
Nicky, an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois, was killed when his human partner, Sgt. Eric Kerns, was involved in a confrontation Thursday afternoon, Las Vegas police said.
The suspect was shot as well, but police did not provide any other information.
Nicky returned to duty March 8, after being severely injured by a suspect wielding a machete, police said.
