Minnesota Woman Pens Powerful Message About Love to Wedding Ring-Shamers

Rachel Pedersen knows her wedding ring is small. But after being bombarded with comments about the size of her rock, the young woman took to social media to bash ring-shamers and her post quickly resonated with many.

“Friends and family often ask me when I’m going to have [my ring] 'upgraded'… after all, it doesn’t represent the level of success we are achieving,” Pedersen wrote on Facebook. “I’ve even had one person say ‘you could wear a bigger ring for important events, so people don’t think you’re not successful.’”

It was that comment that struck a chord with Pedersen.

“Since when did the size of someone’s ring become an indication of success?!” she wrote. “For me, the ring is SO much more. My ring symbolizes a whirlwind, storybook, ‘make you sick’ love story.”

Pedersen, who is from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, met her husband at a Perkins in 2013, where she says the pair immediately fell in love.

“He worked as a window washer, and I was a single mother,” she wrote. “One short week later, and we professed our love to one another, him leading the conversation.”

Thirteen days after their first meeting, the two eloped.

“I didn’t even THINK about a ring until my husband surprised me before the ceremony,” she said. “He drained his savings to gift me with a small token of his love. I say small, only because it pales in comparison with how big his love is, even now, after years of marriage. That, my friends, is success to me.”

The 27-year-old’s post quickly went viral, garnering more than 48,200 shares and more than 188,000 likes. Many women even began posting photos of their rings in the comments and sharing the love stories behind them.

Pedersen told TODAY.com she thinks her story “energizes people” and “reminds them what love it about.”

“To me, that ring is so much more than a diamond,” she said.
