Mom's Trial For '91 Killing Highlights Cold Case Challenges

Michelle Lodzinski, 43, is charged with killing her 5-year-old son in 1991.

A 25-year-old slaying case in New Jersey highlights the challenges of prosecuting decades-old crimes.

Jury selection is scheduled this week in the trial of Michelle Lodzinski, who's charged with killing her 5-year-old son in 1991.

The 48-year-old Lodzinski, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, has claimed Timothy Wiltsey was abducted from a carnival they attended. His remains were found several miles away.

With no eyewitnesses or forensic evidence directly tying her to the crime, prosecutors are expected to rely on the identification of a blanket found near the boy's body. They'll try and show Lodzinski never took him to the carnival, but instead killed him elsewhere and wrapped him in the blanket.

Authorities have portrayed Lodzinski as a struggling single mom who blamed her son for her failed romantic relationships.
