President Barack Obama called for calm on Friday ahead of a grand jury's decision on whether or not to indict police officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown. Citizens have the right "to protest actions that they think are unjust, but using any event as an excuse for violence is contrary to rule of law and contrary to who we are," Obama said in an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News. Brown's death sparked protests that sometimes turned violent, and the upcoming Brown decision — which is expected soon — has Missouri officials bracing for a possible resurgence of violence.
