A 76-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her Westchester home and then lay undiscovered for days amid the debris that cluttered the house, authorities said Saturday.

Linda Falkoff apparently had been dead at least five days when a mail carrier became concerned about uncollected mail at her Pleasantville home and contacted police Friday, said George Longworth, commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.

An officer found her door unlocked and discovered her body.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide by stabbing, Longworth said. Falkoff was a widow with no children, and authorities were unable to locate any relatives.

The investigation has been complicated by the debris, furniture and belongings cluttering Falkoff's home and in some cases blocking windows and stairwells, Longworth said.

"This made the crime scene challenging to process," he said, noting that it was expected to take several more days to complete the examination of the home.

Detectives are looking to speak to friends or associates of Falkoff. They're asking anyone with information on her or about suspicious activity around her Grandview Avenue home to call police at 800-898-8477.
