Officials Seize About 300 Counterfeit ‘Hoverboards' in Miami

Hundreds of counterfeit "hoverboards" have been seized in Miami, according to federal officials.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that U.S. Customs and Border Protection said about 300 boards were seized Thursday at the Port of Miami.

Officials said the total estimated retail price of the counterfeit self-balancing boards is $94,000. The hoverboards arrived from China and contained batteries with a fake LG trademark logo, authorities said.

Customs and Border Protection Port Director Dylan DeFrancisci said the seizure of the fake two-wheeled motorized scooters helps ensure that a product has genuine parts and is safe for use.
