Four Inmates Hospitalized in Fight at Men's Central Jail

Four inmates were hospitalized in a fight in a dorm with 80 inmates Wednesday at the Men's Central Jail complex in downtown Los Angeles, prompting a lockdown, authorities said.

The disturbance was reported at 12:30 p.m. An inmate was stabbed and was being treated by paramedics, said Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which manages the jails. It was not immediately known what precipitated the fight.

There were 80 people in the dormitory where the fight broke out. it was not clear how many inmates participated in the fight.

Both Men's Central Jail and Twin Towers were on lockdown as a precaution.

One inmate suffered a stab wound, and three others suffered less severe injuries.  None of the injuries were life-threatening.
