Man Tossed Out of Bar Dragged White Plains Officer During Getaway Attempt: Police

A man kicked out of a restaurant bar in Westchester early Sunday hopped in his car as police approached and sped away, dragging one officer several yards, authorities said.

The man, Nino Valvano, 38, of Mt. Kisko, was detained after a car chase by White Plains police, investigators said.

The officer who was dragged was treated at White Plains Hospital for injuries and released.

Bar bouncers at Lola's Mexican Kitchen in White Plains ejected Valvano for disorderly conduct at about 4 a.m. and noticed him go to his car, remove something and put it in his waistband. Fearing that it was a weapon, they contacted police.

One officer grabbed the car's door handle when they arrived on scene. As he grabbed the door, the car took off and dragged the cop about 100 feet, authorities say.

Because of the low volume of traffic at that hour, the officers were instructed to chase after the car. Valvano's vehicle never exceeded 50 mph, police said. He eventually stopped and surrendered.

Valvano faces a slate of charges including felony assault on a police officer, driving while intoxicated and possession of cocaine, investigators said. No weapons were found.

It was unclear if Valvano had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
