Free trade has been a loaded topic this campaign season, and one Bernie Sanders has drawn on numerous times to criticize his opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
On Monday, the Vermont senator launched this claim leading up to the Indiana Primary on Tuesday.
"Secretary Clinton,as you know, has supported virtually every one of these disastrous trade agreements," he said. "And that is an area of strong disagreement that the voters of Indiana and America will have to consider, I think."
Is Clinton actually tried-and-true on free trade?
NBC Bay Area reviewed Senate voting records and found that Clinton largely supported free trade while in office as a Senator from New York.
Of the nine free trade agreements that came across her desk, Clinton voted yes on six, no on one and abstained from two.
That’s not to mention NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement. Hillary Clinton didn’t vote on that, but she was first lady when it was passed into law by her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

Hillary Clinton was an outspoken supporter of the agreement and wrote about it in her memoir, "Living History."
"Creating a free trade zone in North America — the largest free trade zone in the world — would expand U.S. exports, create jobs and ensure that our economy was reaping the benefits, not the burdens, of globalization," she wrote.
The reality is, she also backed off this position in recent years, criticizing NAFTA for not delivering on its promise.
