South Florida Polo Mogul John Goodman Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison

South Florida polo mogul John Goodman has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a deadly drunk driving crash in 2010.

Goodman, 51, was convicted in a retrial last month of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. His original conviction and sentence to 16 years in prison was thrown out due to juror misconduct.

Police say a drunken Goodman ran a stop sign in February 2010 and rammed his black Bentley into 23-year-old Scott Patrick Wilson's car, causing it to roll into a canal, where the young man died. Authorities said Goodman left the scene and waited nearly an hour to call 911.

In addition to the 16-year sentence, Goodman was denied bond and will remain in jail during his appeal, according to the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, WPTV. Goodman had remained free until Friday on a multi-million dollar bond and other restrictions like house arrest.

Goodman was also ordered to pay the court costs for the second trial, which WPTV reported are estimated at $60,000. Goodman will get credit for 164 days served on his sentence.

Lawyers for Goodman gave notice that they will appeal the judge’s sentence.
