Suspect's Father Calls Quadruple Slaying ‘Egregious and Heartless'

The father of the man charged in the slayings of four people at a mansion in an exclusive D.C. neighborhood calls the crime "egregious and heartless.''

Dennis Wint said in a statement Tuesday that it pains him that his son, Daron, is charged, but he doesn't discuss his son's guilt or innocence.

"It pains me that my son, who lived with me and my wife (his stepmother) for a brief period over the years, is charged with this crime," Dennis Wint said in the statement, which was published in The Washington Post.

Daron Wint is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Savvas, Amy and Philip Savopoulos and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa. Police have said in charging documents they believe Wint had help from others holding the Savopouloses captive inside their Woodley Park mansion for at least 18 hours. But no other suspects have been identified.

Dennis Wint says his family and friends grieve the "tragic and senseless loss'' but they didn't know the victims. He also says ``we hope that whoever committed these heinous crimes - my son included - will suffer the consequences of their actions.''
