SD Teen Shoots at Uber Driver Over Social Media Posts: Police

    A 16-year-old teen fired several shots at his Uber driver's car following an argument over social media posts, San Diego Police said. 

    The incident happened late Saturday night at after 10 p.m. when a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old called an Uber to pick them up in Mission Beach. 

    The driver came and picked up the teens, dropping them off at a home in San Diego's Valencia Park neighborhood, police said. 

    When the teens got out, the 16-year-old realized he left his phone in the Uber and called the driver. The driver agreed to return the teen's phone after he finished driving the new passenger he had just picked up.

    One Albuquerque, New Mexico mother got the shock of a lifetime when she turned around just in time to see a complete stranger running away with one of her children.

    Quick thinking and protective, the mother was able to chase down 29-year-old Dustin Sherman and wrestle her child from his arms.

    "He was carrying her like he was carrying his own child," the mother said. "He was holding her close you know trying to hold her really close to him and that bothered me really bad."

    Sherman was arrested, and authorities say he has a criminal history that includes battery on a peace officer as well as domestic violence charges.Read more from KOB here.

    The new passenger went through the teen's phone and saw he was talking badly about the driver. They began posting on social media about it, according to SDPD. 

    When the driver returned the teen's phone, the two got in an argument over the social media posts, police said. 

    Eventually, police said, the driver drove away. As he left, the 16-year-old fired several shots, police said. 

    The bullets shattered some of the car's windows, police said.

    A representative for Uber told NBC 7 San Diego they have been in contact with the driver involved and are thankful he is okay. 

    The 16-year-old was arrested a short time later. He has not been identified. 

    The incident is under investigation. 

    No other information was immediately available.

"The approach is really how can we help, wait a minute we hate to hear that.... so what is going on, give us some information and let's see what we can do to straighten this out," said Lisa Goode, with Southwest Airlines.
