Texas Officer Who Faked Death, Fled to Mexico, Arrested at D/FW Airport

A Texas officer who authorities say faked his own death and fled to Mexico has been arrested at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Austin police confirm.

An arrest affidavit released last week said 28-year-old Austin officer Coleman Martin texted his wife a photo of a note indicating he meant to drown himself in a lake near the border with Mexico.

Authorities later were contacted by a woman who received an email from Martin, explaining that he abandoned his car at the lake.

He then rode a bike to a convenience store, grabbed a taxi to the border and hopped a bus into Mexico.

Martin was charged with a misdemeanor count of making a false report, authorities said on Friday.

Austin police confirmed Wednesday Martin was arrested at D/FW Airport on an outstanding warrant. Officers did not confirm an exact date of the arrest.

No further details were immediately released.
