Thousands Protest Vote to Leave European Union in London

The demonstration ended peacefully with a rally outside parliament

Thousands demonstrated in central London on Saturday against last week’s referendum to leave the European Union, NBC News reported.

Most of the protesters were young adults, many of whom were draped in EU flags, while others waved banners bearing slogans such as “I’m with EU” or “Wrexit.” Many who took part said they were taken aback by the result of the vote.

The demonstration ended peacefully with a rally outside parliament. One organizer put it at 50,000, but no police estimate of the turnout was available.

London voted 60 percent of remaining in the EU in last Thursday’s vote. Younger voters widely favored of staying, but the overall result was 51.9 percent in favor of leaving.
