Woman Struck by Lightning While Exiting Plane

Officials say lightning struck a female passenger who was getting off a plane that traveled from Connecticut to South Carolina over the weekend.

Multiple media outlets report an airport spokeswoman said the woman, whose identity hasn't been given, was traveling on an American Airlines flight on Saturday.

Officials from American Airlines said the woman was on U.S. Airways Express Flight 5137, operated by PSA from Bradley Charlotte, North Carolina, when it was diverted to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina due to bad weather.

The woman was struck by lightning as she walked across the tarmac after getting off the plane, airport spokeswoman Kaela Harmon said.

Officials said she was transported to a hospital in Columbia and was listed in stable condition.

A statement from American Airlines says two people were injured.

"During the deplaning process, two passengers were injured and transported to a local hospital to receive medical attention," the statement from American Airlines said.

The flight left Bradley at 2:50 p.m. with 75 passengers and four crewmembers.
