Carly Wins Spending Race, Poll too Close to Call

Spending by former Hewlett Packard Co. CEO Carly Fiorina is far outpacing that of her two opponents in California's GOP primary for U.S. Senate as the campaign heads to a close.

Campaign fundraising reports released Thursday show Fiorina has spent $4.2 million in the period from April 1 to May 19, thanks in large part to campaign loans made from her personal fortune.

Former Congressman Tom Campbell spent $1.1 million and state by Assemblyman Chuck DeVore spent $654,000.

Fiorina and Campbell are in a statistical tie in the latest poll, with DeVore trailing.

Fundraising from outside donors was much closer. Campbell took in $989,000, while Fiorina raised $909,000. DeVore brought in slightly more than $512,000.
