Former Vice President Dick Cheney has voiced his choice for California governor.

Cheney wrote an opinion piece in the Orange County Register over the weekend, endorsing Meg Whitman for governor. He compares the former eBay CEO to Ronald Reagan, saying, "I believe Meg Whitman can do for California what Ronald Reagan did for America."

The former VP takes a swipe at Whitman's opponent, Steve Poizner, citing his endorsement support for the Gore-Lieberman campaign in 2004.

"While I have doubts about the authenticity of the conservative voice that Mr. Poizner now speaks in," Cheney writes, "there is no disputing that Meg Whitman is the Republican the Democrats fear the most in this election."

Some political experts also said it's unclear whether Cheney's endorsement is a help or a hinder for Republicans in California.
