Events are taking place in California and across the country Saturday in observance of Harvey Milk Day.

California is celebrating its first day of "special significance" honoring the slain gay rights leader on what would have been his 80th
birthday.

Along with concerts, political fundraisers and rallies in California, commemorative events in Milk's honor are planned in 20 other states.

The celebration comes the day after it was revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was looking into alleged political corruption by former San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, according to documents revealed through a Freedom of Information Act request by activist Michael Petrelis.

After Milk was killed, the FBI dropped its corruption investigations.
