Yesterday, a handful of people inspired by an effort on Facebook to assemble a "March Against Muni" showed up to protest service cuts and fare increases.
Only problem was, many more Muni employees from the Transit Workers Union also showed up.
Demand number five on the March Against Muni list is "No more rude drivers." Awkward!
Workers demanded cuts to the salaries of management in order to help balance the budget. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Supervisor Sean Elsbernd have threatened to put a measure on the November ballot if drivers and other Muni employees don't agree to pay concessions.
Strangely, one would think management would be willing to take a bit less now -- since chances are they could do quite well in the future thanks to their connections to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
Turns out that two companies that employ former Muni managers, including former General Manager Emilio Cruz and former SFMTA Director Stuart Sunshine, are set to make millions on contracts related to the construction of the Central Subway.
Seems they, at least, have figured out how to profit from San Francisco's transit mess.
