Palin Resignation Cost Alaska at Least 40K: Report

Rep says estimating cost "incredibly misleading"

Ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin cost her home state at least $40,000 when she resigned unexpectedly in July, according to a report.

The pricey July 26 swearing-in ceremony of her replacement reportedly cost nearly $14,100 and moving the state's first family out of the Juneau governor's mansion tacked on an additional $3,328 in costs, according to documents obtained by the Associated Press

But Palin's spokeswoman balked at the figure and said estimating the cost of resignation is "incredibly misleading." Palin's resignation ceremony was added on to the pre-scheduled governor's picnic and was organized by the lieutenant governor's office, she said.

The total cost estimated by the AP doesn't include the $100,000 one-day special session last month to approve Palin's replacement pick and override a veto on stimulus funds.
