Clinton administration official, reporter passes away of skin cancer

    Kenneth Bacon has passed away at 64.

    Kenneth Bacon, a Pentagon spokesman in the Clinton administration, died Saturday at the age of 64 after losing a battle with skin cancer that made its way to his brain.

    Bacon, who died in Block Island, R.I., at his weekend home, worked for former President Bill Clinton as assistant secretary of defense for public affairs and was known for wearing bowties at Pentagon briefings.

    He also worked as a Wall Street Journal reporter and editor for years and eventually became president of Refugees International, where he advocated for displaced peoples in third-world countries.

    Bacon was a long-time human rights advocate.
