Pelosi Resumes Schedule Following Illness

Rep. Nancy Pelosi was back on her planned schedule by Monday night, after visiting a Romel hospital earlier in the day.

Her spokesman Nadeam Elshami said Pelosi did not suffer any kind of medical emergency and chose to go to the hospital because it was the closest clinic to her hotel.

β€œAfter several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well.  This morning in Rome, the Leader was advised to visit a clinic, and the closest medical facility was a hospital.  The Leader is now resuming her schedule in Italy,” Elshami said.

AFP, the France Press, was the first to report the hospital visit after Pelosi reported "feeling unwell."

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), who was traveling with Pelosi told NBC that, "She's at the hotel now. She's fine, she's in good shape. Just a few tests to make sure she was all right." Pascrell said the group had "a strenuous few days in Afghanistan," prior to arriving in Rome.

Pelosi issued a press release last week announcing a visit to Italy as part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation. The release did not say that she was also visiting Afghanistan.

Pelosi was invited by the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Gianfranco Fini, to mark the 150th anniversary of Italian unification.

Pelosi wrote this of her trip prior to leaving March 18:

β€œMy first official trip abroad this year is a visit with our brave men and women in uniform. We have thousands of members of our armed forces stationed in Italy, many of whom have served our nation with distinction in Iraq and Afghanistan. The United States has no greater ally in NATO than Italy, which is why the delegation looks forward to meeting with President Giorgio Napolitano, President of the Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini, and members of the Italian Parliament to discuss issues of concern and cooperation."
