Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman appeared on the KTKZ Sacramento radio hosted by Eric Hogue and offered up a novel explanation as to why she hasn't bothered to schedule any debates with fellow Republican gubernatorial candidates.

It's all Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner's fault!

Responding to a question from Hogue about Whitman's pledge in May to schedule three debates in the fall, Whitman responded:

You know, I think we did ask him whether he wanted to debate in the fall and I'm not sure exactly what the answer was. I'll have to find out. I mean, there wasn't a series of responses that he gave us on that.

However, Poizner had a letter hand-delivered to Whitman in August taking her up on the offer.

And in the last two months, both Poizner and former congressman Tom Campbell have appeared together twice to discuss the issues, and in neither case did Whitman bother to attend.

In a statement, Poizner encouraged Whitman to show up at the Claremont Institute on December 5 for a scheduled debate that her campaign has already declined to attend.

Maybe if Whitman ignores Poizner and Campbell hard enough, they'll just go away?

Jackson West is just glad one party still has some catfight left in it.
