49ers Linebacker Switches Teams

The 49ers lose member of practice squad to silver and black.

A double-dip of emotional satisfaction for Oakland Raiders fans, as the Raiders make a move that not only weakens the 49ers, but adds the son of a former Raider to the current roster.

The Oakland Tribune reports the Raiders have signed linebacker Bruce Davis, Jr. to their active roster, plucking him from the San Francisco 49ers practice squad.

The Raiders need help at the position with injuries to Quentin Groves, Thomas Howard, and Ricky Brown.

Allen's father, also named Bruce Allen, was a Raider from 1979 to 1987. He was a member of the Super Bowl champion 1980 Oakland Raiders, the first wild card team ever to win the Super Bowl.

Any practice squad player on any NFL team can be acquired at any time by another NFL team offering him a roster spot. You could be next, Nate Davis!

The legacy thing is awesome, but the Oakland Trib's Jerry McDonald throws the cold water of reality on this transaction for Raider Nation. "Bruce Davis signing makes for nice story, with father an ex-Raider," McDonald tweeted, "But he's been cut by Steelers, Patriots, Broncos and 49ers."

It certainly makes a nice story for Bruce Davis, Jr. The minimum weekly paychecks for an active roster player are nearly three-and-a-half times the dollar amount of the weekly paychecks for a practice squad player.
