49ers Rookie Aldon Smith Arrested for Suspicion of DUI

Smith could be fined or suspended after the arrest in Miami Beach.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested on suspicion of DUI Saturday morning in Miami.

He was booked into jail Saturday morning at 9:32 EST and was given a $1,000 bond, according to the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department Web site. The arrest took place in Miami Beach.

Smith recorded 14 sacks as a rookie in 2011, nearly breaking Jevon Kearse's rookie record. He was a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Month.

Smith is subject to a fine or suspension if it is determined that he violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

"We take these issues very seriously, but will reserve further comment at this time, as this is an ongoing legal matter," the 49ers said in a statement released later Saturday. "The 49ers will continue to gather the facts and monitor the developments closely."

At around 1 a.m. in Miami, @AldonSmithJETS had sent out a Twitter message before his arrest:
