Giants Apologize After Orioles' Adam Jones Claims Fan Threw Banana at Him

Authorities are reviewing footage of Sunday's Giants-Orioles game after Baltimore center fielder Adam Jones claimed a fan threw a banana at him.

The San Francisco Chronicle says Jones, who's black, contends in a Twitter posting that someone tossed the fruit after he hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning.

His tweet sarcastically thanks the fan and adds: ``way to show ur (your) class u jackass.''

The Orioles won the game at San Francisco 10-2.

Jorge Costa, the Giants' senior vice president of ballpark operations, says authorities are reviewing surveillance footage of the ninth inning. Costa said there were no in-house radio calls about the incident.

Park officials say throwing things onto the field is grounds for ejection from the park.

Statement from the San Francisco Giants regarding the incident:

We were extremely disappointed to learn about the incident involving Adam Jones at AT&T Park yesterday. The Giants have a zero tolerance policy against this type of behavior, which results in immediate ejection from the ballpark. While we have been investigating the matter since we learned of the situation, unfortunately we have been unable to identify the person responsible. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans.
