Stay Out of the City Sept. 13, 2013

If you love racing: head on in. If you hate traffic: stay away.

Mark your calendars Bay Area. One of the biggest attractions in the coming decade has an official start date.

Organizers announced Tuesday that the 34th America's Cup will begin on Saturday Sept. 7, 2013 on the San Francisco Bay.  That is the weekend following Labor Day.

Those are the dates you'll want to avoid the City all together or get on a hotel reservation list now depending on your racing enthusiasm.

The race will pit Larry Ellison and crew against a to-be-named-later challenger in 20 short months. The Cup will be a best-of-9 contest and if it goes the distance will last through Sunday, Sept. 22.

The race that will determine who will compete in the Cup will also take place on the Bay between mid-July and early September 2013.

You can pretty much be guaranteed that traffic anywhere near the Embarcadero will be hellish all summer 2013.
