Artest Out After Injuring Self At Home

Ron Artest will miss his first game of the season after he fell down stairs at home.

Lakers fans had to figure that Ron Artest would miss a few games this season, but it was expected to be for a suspension after a technical foul.

Instead, Artest will likely miss his first game of the year Saturday night in Sacramento after having being taken to the hospital last night. According to the Lakers, Artest tripped over a box and down a flight of stairs, with injuries that led to stitches to his head and left elbow. He was treated and released last night.

That must have capped off a really bad Christmas Day for Artest. First he and his teammates got crushed by the Cleveland Cavaliers, suffering their worst loss of the season. Then at night he’s bouncing down a flight of stairs.

He is meeting with a neurologist in Los Angeles on Saturday, and any long term decisions on his status will be decided after the results from that appointment are known.

It will be interesting to see how the Lakers respond, with one of their best defensive players down the day after getting knocked around on national television. Will they show some fight and beat an upstart Kings team, or will they suffer their first back-to-back losses of the season That will tell us a lot about what this Lakers team is made of.
