The Oakland A's added some pop to their lineup, acquiring outfielder Scott Hairston from the San Diego Padres for minor league pitchers Ryan Webb and Craig Italiano as well as a player to be named later.
In 56 games this season, Hairston is hitting .299 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI. The 29-year-old outfielder has also stolen eight bases.
Webb, 23, was 7-1 with a 4.34 ERA at Triple-A Sacramento this year, primarily in a relief role. He was a fourth round pick of the A's in the 2004 MLB draft.
Italiano, 22, was 5-6 with a 5.63 ERA as a starting pitcher at Single-A Stockton. He was the A's second round pick in the 2005 draft.
Hairston is expected to join the A's in Boston on Monday. Oakland beat Cleveland 5-2 on Sunday to salvage the final game of their weekend series.
