Big Awards Thrown at Buster Posey

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey hit six doubles during his orange-hot hitting rampage in the month of July.

Now Posey hits another double for the month of July. Andre Baggarly breaks word on his Mercury News blog that Posey has been named NL Player of the Month for July, as well as Rookie of the Month for July.

So much for my "Should never have traded Bengie Molina" arguments.

Posey's power in July earned not only monthly honors from Major League Baseball, but historical significance in the annals of Giants-dom.  Posey's blistering 43 hits and .417 batting average represent the best hitting month for a Giants rookie in 46 years.

Posey also enjoyed a 21-game hit streak, 21 multiple-hit games, and a sweep of the Dodgers.

Posey was called up from AAA on May 29. In July, he led the entire National League in hits.

And don't worry about our old friend Bengie Molina. He's been doing okay for himself too.
