Bonds' Jury Sick as Prosecution Drops Bombshell

A sick juror has postponed the perjury trial of former Giants slugger Barry Bonds, but that does not mean there won't be fireworks in the San Francisco courtroom.

Several media outlets are reporting that prosecutors dropped a bombshell early Monday saying that new evidence was discovered over the weekend that will help their case.

The evidence is a recording the prosecution's star witness Steve Hoskins said he just found that would confirm the number of conversations he had with Bonds' doctor Arthur Ting. Dr. Ting's testimony conflicted with Hoskins' last week.

Hoskins said the two had many more conversations about Bonds then the doctor remembered. Ting said they had one. Hoskins said it was about 50. Judge Susan Illston will deal with the tape Monday.

The trial was expected to go to the jury this week. The juror's illness might delay that.  There are only two alternates and if the sick juror is replaced that would bring that number down to one. Illston said they would take up the jury issue Tuesday.
