Chase Kalisz

Country: USA
Sport: Swimming
Date of Birth: 07/03/1994
First Olympics: 2016, Rio

Chase Kalisz grew up idolizing fellow Maryland native Michael Phelps – even spinning the rims on Phelps’ Escalade – and now trains with him in Arizona. Phelps now considers him a younger brother.

He won a silver medal in the 400m IM at 2013 Worlds and followed it up with a bronze at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships and a bronze at the 2015 Worlds. A gold medal in the 400m medley in the Olympic trials made him the first swimmer to qualify for Rio. The first time Olympian and two-time World Champion currently holds the American record in the 400y individual medley. Kalisz, of Bel Air, Maryland, trains under Phelps’ coach and was affiliated with the North Baltimore Aquatic Club at the time he was named to Team USA.

He will compete in the 400m medley in Rio.
