Clemens' Accuser Says Rocket Man's Charity Paid for Drugs

But accuser can't produce proof, reports NewYork Times

Roger Clemens' charitable foundation paid for the disgraced pitcher's performance-enhancing drugs, his former trainer told investigators.

Brian McNamee told feds probing whether Clemens lied to Congress that the retired pitcher's nonprofit organization paid him for his training services, including providing the seven-time Cy Young Award winner with performance-enhancing drugs, The New York Times reported.

McNamee told authorities the Roger Clemens Foundation paid him from 1998 through 2001, according to several people briefed on the investigation, the Times reported. McNamee, who claims he injected Clemens with steroids, said he was also paid in cash and personal checks.

Clemens’ lawyer, Rusty Hardin disputed McNamee’s claims, saying it is McNamee who is the liar.

“Obviously, Roger never paid him for any drugs anytime and he never paid him out of the foundation for his training services at any time,” Hardin said. “The foundation’s records will show that.”

McNamee could not produce documents to support his accusations, according to the Times.

Clemens is under investigation for perjury stemming from his statements under oath to Congress in February 2008 in which he denied ever using performance-enhancing drugs.
