The San Jose Earthquakes are dreaming big.
The local MLS team began demolition of the Food Machinery Corporation building in San Jose Wednesday. The team hopes to build a soccer specific stadium on the location at 1125 Coleman Ave., near the airport.
For years, local soccer fans have been pushing for a stadium in the South Bay. Those efforts accelerated when the league moved the Earthquakes out of San Jose to Houston, in large part because the team did not have a financially viable location to play.
Two years later, Oakland Athletics owner Lew Wolff resurrected the club with a focus on building a new stadium in San Jose.
