Former Cal and Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge and been sentenced to 80 hours of community service and three years of probation.

Attorney Gerald Schwartzbach entered the plea for Lynch in a Los Angeles court Thursday. Two other gun charges were dismissed. The 22-year-old Lynch was not present.

Lynch was arrested Feb. 11 after suburban Culver City police smelled marijuana coming from a parked car and found a loaded gun and four marijuana cigarettes inside. No drug charges were filed.

Lynch said in a statement that he's embarrassed and regrets placing himself in the situation. He apologized and said he's committed to being "a more responsible citizen."

The attorney says Lynch could have pleaded no contest but chose to plead guilty.
