The Giants acquired All-Star second baseman Freddy Sanchez after a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

All the team had to give up is one minor league player -- Tim Alderson.  Alderson is one of the Giants' hottest prospects.

That according to Sanchez's agent.

The Pirates were in San Francisco for a three game series with the Giants that started Monday, but Sanchez did not play due to a sore left knee.

Reports from the team’s website indicated that the Giants re-examined Sanchez's knee on Wednesday afternoon -- after having already performed an initial MRI on Monday, but wanted to take another look before agreeing to any deal.

Sanchez, 31, won a National League batting title with the Pirates in 2006. He is a California native – born in Hollywood – and began his professional career with the Red Sox organization.
