There is a good deal of the season to play before anything concrete is settled in the Wild Card race, but the Giants have a big weekend ahead in Denver.

Friday night, here on NBC Bay Area was the first of a three game set with the Colorado Rockies, a team neck and neck with the Giants in the standings.

Matt Cain took a share of a National League-leading 12 wins while striking out five batters over seven innings of work, as the Giants won 3-1.

In the fourth inning, with one run in,  Nate Scheirholtz added a solo home run, his fourth of the season.

Fred Lewis was 3-for-3, just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Jonathan Sanchez (3-8) faces Jorge De La Rosa (7-7) on Saturday.
