As far as politicians go, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom may be a better gambler than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The Democratic politician and San Francisco resident is putting her faith in the Giants on the line. Pelosi has placed a bet with Sen. Arlen Specter, a Philadelphia Phillies fan, where the loser will have to fork over a box of chocolates. Really?
Newsom to his credit made a bet that forced Atlanta to hang the Giants flag from its city hall. At least Pelosi is putting San Francisco finest chocolate up as collateral.
If the Giants lose to the Phillies, Pelosi will send Specter a box of Ghiradelli chocolate, while if San Francisco upsets Philadelphia, Specter will walk down to his local Safeway -- ironically enough -- and buy Pelosi a box Hershey's chocolate.
